Vexed over the transfer of a history teacher from DM College of Arts to CI College, Bishnupur district, students of the college locked both the entrances of DM College of Arts on Monday.
The students demanded revocation of the transfer order of lecturer Syamson Sitlhou who was serving as a utilized teacher at DM College.
Slogans such as ‘Refill the vacant teachers’, ‘Make us study in peace’, ‘We don’t want violence’ were shouted during the protest.
Speaking to the media, a student protestor, Umar MK, stated that transferring of the history lecturer from the college when the DM University is facing shortages of teachers is an act of playing with the faith of the students.
Due to lack of teachers in the varsity, those recently selected research scholars who have not even started their course work are being utilized as teachers, he said.
Moreover, a bifurcation process of the teachers under the varsity are underway, he said, adding that transferring of a teacher during this period is unreasonable and it’s against the rules.
"Such transfer policy of the state government is an act to demolish the standard of DM College of Arts," he alleged.
The protesting students informed the media that they have resolved to permanently lock the college until the transfer order is revoked.
