Students, guardians, teachers and authorities of Slopeland Public School, Khongjom in Thoubal district on Thursday demonstrated a sit-in protest at the school gate, condemning the ban imposed upon the school by proscribed organisation Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).
In the protest, a class XII student stated that the school is a residential school with students from different parts of the country. She maintained that the students are worried that their education will be affected. She also appealed for a peaceful educational environment for the students.
A student from Tripura urged the authorities concerned to withdraw the ban immediately for the sake of the students.

“The parents and guardians are distraught on hearing that the proscribed group KYKL had announced the ban of the school from 2023 onwards,” she added.
The student also appealed to the authorities concerned to withdraw the ban for the sake of the students whose guardians have limited resources.
During the protest, the protesters displayed placards that read ‘Don’t hinder our learning with threats’, ‘We highly condemn the threats to close our school’ and ‘We condemn the extortion demand at school’ etc.
