Manipur Education Department (School), director L Nandakumar Singh on Friday cautioned students that social media addiction is becoming a huge threat among the Gen Alpha apart from drugs and intoxicants.
Nandakumar as presidium member was speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) at its head office located at Thounaojam Leikai Junior High School, Imphal West.
Before the mobile phone was introduced in Manipur, students used to procrastinate their duties with the use of drugs and intoxicants. However, the addictive use of social media among the Gen Alpha is becoming worse, he said. Social media addiction is becoming worse than drug addiction among the students, he added.
Having a students’ organisation is necessary to raise voice for any sort of issues among the students. However, office bearers of all the student organizations should also focus on studies for a better career, he added.
As a part of the function, the flag of MSF was hoisted and unfurled by presidium members including president incharge of the student’s body Hijam Roshan.
In the keynote address, general secretary of the student’s body Rojit Tekcham highlighted the achievements of MSF and their contribution to the society to bring quality education.
JNIMS, Porompat, director professor Laishram Deben Singh; vice president Thounaojam Leikai Development Association (TDKA), Chungkham Shamu and advisor MSF Ngariyanbam Milan also attended the function as presidium members.
Commemorating the departed souls of MSF volunteers, a two-minutes silence was observed. A voluntary blood donation camp was also organised at the campus.
