The Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has warned of strong agitations if the authorities concerned failed to release the OBC Post-Matric Scholarship 2021-22 by February 27.
"It is unfortunate to learn that the scholarship is still pending," MUSU vice-president Oinam Premdas said during a press meet held at the dean office of MU on Tuesday.
The Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry gives different categories of scholarship; however, when it reaches Manipur, the scholarship is pending, Oinam Premdas said.
Since the end of 2022, students have been demanding the release of scholarship. Online registration for 2022-23 scholarship has been completed, but scholarship for 2021-22 is yet to be released, he added.
A memorandum has been submitted to the prime minister, the state chief minister and the education minister, to release the pending scholarship amount. But no action has been taken yet, the MUSU VP said.
The state government should release the pending scholarship by February 27 or face a strong agitation, he warned.
He also informed that the Central government has sanctioned the scholarship amount. For OBC Post-Matric Scholarship 2021-22, for a total of 24,968 students, the state government proposed Rs 30 crore but the Centre sanctioned only Rs 1 crore, he said.
