Student bodies of 13 colleges in Manipur on Monday demanded authorities concerned to lower the examination fees for the upcoming 2nd, 4th and 6th semester college examination under Manipur University by April 11.
Speaking to media at Manipur College, Imphal, Imphal College Students’ Union general secretary Paritomba Wahengbam warned that a series of intense agitation would be taken up if authorities concerned fail to renew the examination fee structure by April 11.
Paritomba highlighted that the notification of the upcoming BA/B Sc/B Com exam for 2nd, 4th and 6th semester was circulated on April 5, 2023, but the amount of fees imposed in the notification was double the amount of the previous fee taken for the same semesters, he added.
“Since the majority of the college students come from poor economic backgrounds, there is a need for a reasonable fee amount,” he said.
The general secretary informed that a memorandum had been submitted to the controller of Examination, Manipur University. He urged the controller of examination to make due consideration of the memorandum.
Paritomba added that a copy of the memorandum had also been passed on to Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU). He claimed that MUSU had assured to extend their full support towards the cause.
He further cautioned that examination form-fill up process in all colleges under Manipur University will be halted if no positive response is received from the controller by April 11. The process will be stopped until authorities resolve the matter at the earliest, he added.
