UGC secretary professor Manish R Joshi, in a notice issued on May 15, said that the move was taken as the university failed to provide the necessary information required for inspection, as requested by UGC vide letters dated July 3, 2015, August 12, 2015, October 21, 2016, March 1, 2019 and January 11, 2021, despite repeated written communications.

It said that UGC issued a Show Cause Notice vide F No 8-19/2015 (CPP-I/PU) dated December, 19, 2023. It maintained that the University was given an opportunity to show cause as to why action against the university be not taken by the UGC to remove its name from the list of Universities as maintained by the UGC under Section 2(1) of the UGC Act, 1956.

A copy of the Show Cause Notice was also sent to the Department of Higher Education, Government of Manipur requesting to take immediate action and send its comments, it said and added that the UGC has not received any reply from the University nor any comments from the Government of Manipur.

The university cannot offer any UGC specified degree of Under-Graduate, Post Graduate level including PhD, it asserted. It advised prospective students and parents not to take admission in any of the programmes of university from the date of issue of the Notice. In the absence of UGC approval, any Degree issued/awarded by the University will not be recognized or considered valid for the purpose of higher education and employment, it added.

It may be mentioned that the Sangai International University, Churachandpur, was established by the Government of Manipur as a State Private University, following which the name of the university was enlisted in the UGC list of universities in June, 2015.
