Manipur primary teacher among 75 national awardees

Ningthoujam Binoy Singh, an acting head teacher at Chingmei Upper Primary School, Keibul Lamjao, Moirang, Bishnupur district, Manipur, has been chosen among 75 esteemed teachers from across India to receive the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2023.

In a momentous celebration of exceptional educators, Ningthoujam Binoy Singh, an acting head teacher at Chingmei Upper Primary School, Keibul Lamjao, Moirang, Bishnupur district, Manipur, has been chosen among 75 esteemed teachers from across India to receive the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2023.

His core of appreciation as per jury’s commendation is governance.

This award, which recognises the outstanding contributions of educators, will be conferred by President Droupadi Murmu during a grand ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5 (Teacher’s Day).

Binoy’s remarkable journey in education began with the revitalisation of a school that was in a dire state when he assumed his role as head teacher.

His tireless efforts to improve the school’s infrastructure, sometimes even at his own expense, led to the return of students to the institution.

His commitment extended beyond the classroom as he visited the homes of dropouts, motivating parents to send their children back to school.

Binoy’s dedication was further exemplified by his personal involvement in maintaining the school campus and toilets.

Under his leadership, the school’s enrollment grew from a mere five students to an impressive 232. Additionally, he generously distributed stationery items and provided free books to the children, further enhancing the learning environment.

Moreover, his unwavering commitment, Chingmei Primary School was upgraded to Chingmei Upper Primary School.

The National Teachers’ Award aims to celebrate the exceptional contributions of teachers who have not only elevated the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students, said the Ministry of Education in a release.

Each recipient will be presented with a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs. 50,000, and a silver medal, it said adding furthermore, awardees will have the unique opportunity to interact with the Prime Minister as part of the recognition.

It mentioned that this annual event, held on Teachers’ Day, involves a rigorous and transparent selection process to honour the nation’s best teachers.

It also stated that this year marks a significant expansion of the award’s scope to include teachers from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

In total, 50 school teachers, 13 higher education teachers, and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be recognised for their outstanding contributions, it added.
