Manipur HSLC class 10 exam 2024 result declared in 'Grades' for the first time

Tengnoupal district performed the best with 99.65 per cent, followed by Thoubal with 99.04 per cent and Bishnupur district with 97.32 per cent. Jiribam district recorded the lowest with 50.71 per cent.

The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) on Monday declared the result of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSCL) examination 2024 with an overall pass percentage of 93.03.

And for the first time, the marks were given in the grading system and therefore, there were no toppers nor first, second or third division.

This year, a total 37,547 students appeared for the examination, which was conducted from March 15 to April 3, 2024 across the state. Out of the total students who appeared for the exam, 18,995 were male and 18,552 were female while one student was kept in withheld. 

As per official data, the overall pass percentage for HSLC 2024 is 93.03 percent which is an improvement from over the last two years; the pass percentage in 2022 and 2023 being 76 percent and 82.82 percent respectively.

In district-wise performance, Tengnoupal district performed the best with 99.65 per cent, followed by Thoubal with 99.04 per cent and Bishnupur district with 97.32 per cent. Jiribam district recorded the lowest with 50.71 per cent.

As for government schools, 9,037 students appeared with 84.34 per cent clearing it while 1,308 students from aided schools appeared producing a pass percentage of 92.74 per cent; 27,202 students appeared from private schools resulting in a pass percentage of 95.93 per cent.

H Gyan Prakash, commissioner of Education (U), said that the marking system has been turned into a grading system this time to enhance the overall performance of the student, without giving undue pressure and stress to the students.

The decision was made by the government of Manipur to reduce the competition among students; it will also help reduce stress and burden on the students, Prakash said.

The HSLC grading system includes grades from A1 to E2 with students graded for marks secured in every subject. No total marks or aggregate marks were displayed for the students. Moreover, there was no division or rank awarded to students.
