COCOCSUM elects new convener, co conveners

The committee resolved to approach the government to bring quality education in colleges and to open more PG courses.

The Coordinating Committee of Colleges Student Union Manipur (COCOCSUM) elected its new convener and co-conveners through an online meeting on Tuesday.

The office bearers were elected during a meeting of general secretaries from different various college students unions in the state.

Khaidem Robinson was elected as the convener of the committee while Thokchom Thoibi, Robinson Kangjam, Irangbam Rajesh, Thokchom Dingku, Moirangthem Orbin, Ngamgouthang Khongsai, Sh Obed Kharam and Leishemba Chingangbam were elected as co convenors, stated a release.

General secretaries of students union from Biramangol College, Naorem Bihari Collge, Modern College, Liberal College, GP Women’s College, DM college of Arts, Kakching Khunou College, Kha Manipur College, Thambal Marik College, L Sanoi College, YK College, Thoubal College, Oriental College and Mayai Lambi College were present in the meeting, it stated.

In the meeting, the committee resolved to approach the government to bring quality education in the colleges and to open more PG courses.

The meeting also resolved to mount pressure upon the state government to fill up the vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff in the colleges and to speed up recruitment process of teachers undertaken by the state government, the release stated.

The meeting also resolved to further mount pressure upon the government to appoint a regular principal in all the colleges while adding that there are only 15 regular principals in the state government colleges while the remaining colleges, including many aided colleges function without a regular principal.

It was also resolved to ask the state government to solve different issues presently faced by Dhanamanjuri University which is the only state university in Manipur, it added.

Since the 5th semester examination under the university was conducted online for the current year, the meeting also resolved to ask the DMU authorities to refund a little portion of the examination fees to the students or consider it for the 6th semester examination, it stated.

The meeting also resolved to mount pressure on the state government to release the pending scholarships of students belonging to scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, minorities and other backward classes, it added.
