Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), Akham Joykumar on Friday announced that students of Class X under BOSEM will now have the opportunity to enhance their performance through supplementary exams in two subjects.
This move is aligned with the adoption of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Manipur, said the chairman while delivering the presidential speech during the 50th Annual Prize Distribution Function conducted by BOSEM at its office in Imphal.
He emphasised that the decision aims to provide students with more opportunities for improvement.
Additionally, he revealed a special provision for national and international players, allowing them a chance for special examinations if their tournament schedules overlap with the regular examination schedule.
Addressing concerns about discrepancies between students’ date of birth on certificates and Aadhaar cards, Joykumar acknowledged the challenge and assured that the board is working towards relaxing the criteria for matriculation eligibility by one year.
Furthermore, in response to the introduction of the grading system under the NEP, the chairman expressed the board’s readiness to engage in discussions with stakeholders.
He further extended an invitation for suggestions from various parties to enhance the functioning of BOSEM.
Commissioner of Education, Gyan Prakash, who attended the function as the chief guest, urged students not to diminish their efforts, emphasising that knowledge acquisition is a gradual process.
He pointed out that while achieving the top position is commendable, there should always be room for improvement.
The commissioner emphasised the need for students to move away from rote learning and embrace critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), he stressed the importance of acquiring knowledge that goes beyond what AI can accomplish and applying this knowledge for the betterment of society.
The prize distribution ceremony not only facilitated the top 10 rank holders in the BOSEM’S HSLC Examination 2023 but also marked the academic achievement by bestowing 27 distinct awards donated by donors, trusts and societies upon 42 outstanding students.
The programme also witnessed the presence of L Nandakumar director of Education (S), S Mangijao secretary BOSEM, S Jitelal Sharma joint secretary BOSEM, Ayanthoi Singh controller of Examination BOSEM and Elangbam Iboyaima board member of BOSEM as guests of honour.
