All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation (AMMSO) has demanded the vice-chancellor, Manipur Technical University (MTU), Bhabeswar Tongbram to resign from his post on moral grounds within seven working days.

In a release, AMMSO stated that the people expected that the state would surely progress in the field of technology and skill development when MTU was set up. However, all the dreams were shattered with the appointed of an incompetent vice chancellor of the varsity that does not fulfil the essential qualifications prescribed by the University Grant Commission (UGC), it stated.

It alleged that as per guidelines of the UGC, an appointed VC should at least have the 10 years of experience in the field of academic line and should reach the level of a professor. However, the appointed VC Bhabeswar Tongbram could not be accepted as a qualified academician as he is still in the grade of a lecturer, it added.

Besides, he is still serving as deputy director of Technical Education department of Government Polytechnic, AMMSO further stated. Therefore, it is not acceptable that he had contributed 10 years as an academician, it continued.

Condemning the authority concerned, AMMSO further stated that the appointment of an unqualified person as the VC of the varsity really demoralises the students community. Therefore, the authority concerned should appoint the deserving person as the VC within a week and the present VC should resign from his post on moral grounds within a week, it added.
