Applications invited to students with disabilities

Students with disabilities can apply for the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme for the academic session 2022-2023.

Spastic Society of Manipur and Shishu Sarothi, Guwahati have invited applications from students with disabilities under the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme (Formerly Bharti Infratel) for the academic session 2022-2023.

A release issued by Spastic Society of Manipur on Saturday stated that Indus Tower Scholarship Program is a CSR initiative of Indus Towers implemented across Northeast in association with Shishu Sarothi and other state partners. The Scholarship aims to promote inclusion of students with disabilities in the mainstream by providing financial support in pursuing their higher education so that they can lead an independent life ahead.

As per the eligible criteria for the scholarship, students with disabilities aged between 15 years and 30 years who have disability certificates with more than 40 per cent of disability are eligible, it stated.  The courses supported by the programme are higher secondary, bachelor, post-graduation, diploma, PG diploma, coaching for employment-oriented examinations, Bank PO coaching, vocational and technical courses etc., it mentioned. The last date for submission of Application is September 30 2022, it added.

It further stated that the programme was launched in 2016 to promote inclusive higher education for the underprivileged and marginalised communities of Northeast. So far, 464 students have been supported under the programme, of which 102 students are from Manipur.

Spastic Society of Manipur is now functional at Tapokpi Bazar and Langthabal Kunja is a Composite Centre for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, it stated. The organisation received the National Award for Best Institutions in 2008 for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, it mentioned.

ShishuSarothi Centre for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disabilities, is a right-based, not-for-profit organisation based in Guwahati which offers a range of services for Children with Physical and Developmental Disabilities. It was established in 1987 with the main focus of Empowering Children and Youth and helps them live their life in Equity. Services provided by Shishu Sarothi for People with Disabilities include Education, Livelihood, Advocacy, Health and HRD, it added.
