Fund sanctioned for construction of schools located under ZEO Zone (III) Thoubal district has been withdrawn but schools are yet to be constructed, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) said and called on the authority concerned to punish those involved in the case.
The fund was sanctioned under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) 2012-2013 project.
During a press conference held at AMSU HQs on Thursday, secretary general Bikramjit Thongam said that an inspection carried out by the union found that the fund for construction of Enganglok Achouba Primary School, Malei Tampak Primary School under SSA had been withdrawn while the schools were yet to be constructed. Enganglok Macha Primarily School was constructed but not at its original place but rather shifted to someone else's land.
He further alleged that a sum of Rs. Rs 24,30,837 was withdrawn out of Rs 32,84,000, the required amount for construction of Enganglok Macha Primary School. For Enganglok Achouba Primary School the necessary amount is Rs 8,00,000 and that Rs 6,00,000 had been already withdrawn and that Rs 15,68,846 had been withdrawn from a total of Rs 32,84,000, the amount required for construction of Malei Tampak Primarily School.
AMSU found that the money for construction of the first two schools were withdrawn under the signature of Tekcham Bikomdash Meetei. However, the said person is not a staff of ZEO Thoubal, Bikramjit Thongam stated.
He said the union had already published about misappropriation of said money on November 16. In response, Tekcham Bikomdash Meetei tried to show AMSU in bad light and claimed that he is not involved in the case.
The AMSU termed it unfortunate that the state government failed to take up any action even after the issue was published or broadcast through media.
The union has all the supporting documents of money sanctioned and withdrawn, he added while urging the government to take immediate action to those who were involved in the case.
