As many as 96 students from 19 different educational institutes have been denied to appear in the HSLC Examination 2023 due to alleged negligence of their respective school authorities in the filling up of form. In view of it, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded action against the educational institutes.

The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) denied the 96 students from appearing in the HSCL exam scheduled to begin on Wednesday after the 19 schools failed to submit online application forms for the 96 students within the stipulated time limit.

Expressing concerns over the possible impact on the career of these 96 students, the DESAM on Wednesday appealed to the state government to consider an option for allowing them to appear for the examination.

Speaking to the media at the head office of DESAM in Imphal, its secretary general M Somorjit Meitei informed that as per an investigation conducted by DESAM team, negligence on the part of the school authorities was the reason behind BOSEM denying the students from appearing in the examination.

He maintained that as per DESAM investigation report, some of the school authorities responsible for the form fill-up procedure went missing with the fees amount while some failed to discharge their duty due to illness.

"Such negligence by school authorities, which plays with the career of the students, is considered as one of the biggest crimes," he added.

Demanding an inquiry into the matter by the state government, he said legal action should be initiated against the convicted ones.

For government schools, the concerned principal, headmaster or headmistress should be dismissed while recognition should be cancelled for private schools, the secretary general demanded.

Further calling for explanations from the concerned heads of the 19 schools within three days, he cautioned that DESAM will be compelled to take its own course of action if they fail to turn up with an explanation.

As many as 38,127 students will be appearing in the HSLC Examination 2023 which will commence on Thursday and conclude on April 3 under the BOSEM.
