Northeast India: COVID-19 death toll rises to 13,224

In Northeast India, Manipur reported the second highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 among all states in the region, with 2072 fatalities so far.

COVID-19 has claimed as many as 13,224 lives so far across states in Northeast India as of Wednesday, with Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya reporting the highest, as per official sources.

Despite the downtrend in new COVID-19 cases since the past few days, the death toll has been rising. The country's death toll mounted to 5,05,279 as of Wednesday with 1217 more patients reported dead due to the infection.

In Northeast India, Assam reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths as the toll reached 6,579 with the report of eight more fatalities in the state, as per the latest update.

Manipur and Meghalaya reported the second and third highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 among all states in the region, with 2072 and 1552 fatalities so far respectively.

Tripura reported 919, Nagaland 747, Mizoram 626, Sikkim 437 and Arunachal 292 deaths so far.

However, all the eight states have been witnessing a decline in single-day COVID-19 positive cases, except Sikkim.
