Manipur's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 138; positive case tally crosses 17,000

COVID-19 claimed six more lives in Manipur on Saturday.

Manipur’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 138 as six more patients succumbed to the viral infection, while the positive case tally reached 17,022 on Saturday.

The six people who died included a 79-year-old female from Imphal East, 53-year-old male from Imphal West, 72-year-old female from Imphal East, 75-year-old female from Imphal East), 82-year-old male from Imphal West and 46-year-old male from Kangpokpi,  the release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

In all, 233 persons (128M, 105F) from the general population and 12 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases, it stated.

The positive cases from the general population included 91 from Imphal West, 31 from Imphal East, 38 from Thoubal, seven from Chandel, eight from Kakching, one from Kangpokpi, 32 from Tamenglong. Eight from Churachandpur, one from Tengnoupal, five from Senapati, three from Noney and eight from Bishnupur, the release said. It said that all are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The total number of discharged persons, according to the release is 157. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 12,719 (General Population 10,321 and Central Security Personnel -2,398). The number of active cases is 4,165 (General Population - 3,861 and Central Security Personnel -304). The recovery rate is 74.72 per cent.

To break the chain, if one is in contact with a positive person, one should self-isolate immediately, contact Covid-19 control room or CMO for testing. Wear mask, wash hands and maintain social distancing, the release added.
