India's Omicron cases mount to 961; Punjab reports first case

With Punjab reporting its first Omicron case on Thursday, Omicron variant of COVID-19 has spread 22 states in India.

Punjab reports its first Omicron case on Thursday. With it, the total confirmed Omicron cases in India reached 961 and 22 states, while 320 in total have recovered, according to the latest updates by the Union Health Ministry.

Omicron cases in Delhi surged to 263, the highest in the country so far as of Thursday, followed by Maharashtra with 252 cases, Gujarat with 97, Rajasthan with 69 and Kerala 65.

The other states in India with Omicron cases include Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Madya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, J-K, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Manipur.

Meanwhile, India’s total COVID-19 cases surged to 13,154 new cases in the last 24 hours. Consequently, daily positivity rate stood at 1.10 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is 0.76 per cent.

The country’s active caseload currently is 82,402. The active cases account for less than one per cent of the total cases, currently at 0.24 per cent.

Recovery Rate currently is 98.38 per cent, as 7,486 more recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. The countrywide total recoveries increased to 3,42,58,778.

A total of 67.64 crore tests have been conducted across the country so far, and 143.83 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
