India's daily COVID-19 tally drops below 5000-mark

India reported 4,858 new COVID-19 cases and 18 deaths, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

India's COVID-19 tally on Monday surged to 4,45,39,046 with the addition of 4,858 new cases, while 18 fatalities pushed the country's death toll to 5,28,355, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The number of active cases surged to 48,027 from Sunday's 47,922. Active cases constitute 0.11 per cent of the country's total positive cases, the Health Ministry said.

India also recorded 4,735 new COVID-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 4,39,62,664  and the recovery rate is 98.71 per cent as on Monday.

As many as 89,17,53,120 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in India, including 1,75,935 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry.

While the weekly positivity rate in the country was recorded at 1.78 per cent, the daily positivity rate was reported to be 2.76 per cent, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 2,16,70,14,127, including 19,59,51,622 precaution doses.
