India's COVID-19 tally crosses 61-lakh mark; 70,589 new cases reported

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is 61,45,292, including 9,47,576 active cases and 51,01,398 cured/discharged/migrated cases.

India's COVID-19 tally on Tuesday crossed 61-lakh mark with an addition of 70,589 new positive cases in a span of 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is 61,45,292, including 9,47,576 active cases and 51,01,398 cured/discharged/migrated cases.

India’s recoveries have surpassed 51 lakh mark while the daily COVID-19 cases has also dropped below 75,000 cases and deaths below 1,000 were reported after nearly a month. 

The country recorded 776 deaths in a span of a day. The death toll has now mounted to 96,318 and the recovery rate has improved and now stands at  83.01 per cent, the Health Ministry said.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research  (ICMR), 7,31,10,041 samples have been tested for COVID-19 as of September 28. Of these, 11,42,811 samples were tested on Monday. 

Maharashtra with 2,65,455 active cases continues to be the worst affected, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh recording 1,04,067 and 63,116 active cases respectively.
