India’s COVID-19 confirmed tally reaches 96,08,211

Of the total caseload, 4,09,689 are COVID-19 active cases, the Union Health Ministry said.

India's cumulative COVID-19 confirmed tally reached 96,08,211 as 36,652 new cases were reported in a single day. The total tally included 4,09,689 active cases which is 4.26 per cent of the total caseload, according to the latest updates by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

A total of 90,58,822 patients countrywide have recovered while the death toll mounted to 1,39,700 with 512 more deaths. With it, the national COVID-19 recovery rate moved to 94.28 per cent and the fatality rate stood at 1.45 per cent.

The 512 deaths included 127 from Maharashtra, 73 from Delhi, 52 from West Bengal, 29 each from Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, 20 from Punjab, 19 from Haryana, 15 from Chhattisgarh and 13 from Karnataka.

So far, Maharashtra accounts for the highest deaths in the country with 47,599, followed by Karnataka with 11,834 deaths, Tamil Nadu with 11,762 deaths and Delhi with 11,762 COVID-19 related deaths. Over 70 per cent of the deaths were due to comorbidities, the Health Ministry stated.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 14,58,85,512 samples have been tested so far. A total of 11,57,763 samples were tested on December 4.
