India’s Covid-19 confirmed tally crosses 55-lakh mark

The total number of countrywide COVID-19 confirmed cases rose to 55,62,664, including 9,75,861 active cases as per latest updates by the Health Ministry on Tuesday.

India’s Covid-19 tally crossed the 55 lakh mark with a spike of 75,083 positive cases, while 1053 more patients have succumbed to the viral infection in a span of 24 hours, according to the latest updates by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Tuesday.

The total number of confirmed cases rose to 55,62,664, including 9,75,861 active cases, 88,935 deaths and 44,97,868 recovered patients, on Tuesday. Maharashtra and Karnataka continues to be the most affected states in the country with 2,75,017 and 95354 active cases respectively. Andhra Pradesh also accounts for 74,518 active cases, according to the health ministry updates.

Till date, India has tested 6,53,25,779 samples for Covid-19 as of September 21 as 9,33,185 samples were tested on Monday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

India’s recovery rate has improved and now records more than 80 per cent. The country also accounts for the highest recoveries due to Covid-19 globally.

Andaman and Noocobar Islands remain the Union territory with the lowest of COVID-19 active cases at 152. So far, the UT has reported 52 deaths.

In Northeast India, Assam has the highest number of active cases with 29609 people infected with the viral infection and highest number of deaths due to the disease at 578. Sikkim has the lowest active cases with 513 patients. The state has reported 29 deaths due to COVID-19 till date. Mizoram has so far reported no COVID death.
