COVID-19 claims two more lives in Manipur, death toll rises to 1,987

Manipur recorded 24 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday.

Manipur's COVID-19 death toll mounted to 1,987 as two more persons died due to the infection, while the state's tally surged to 1,25,478 with 24 new positive cases, according to the latest update by the state health department. The positivity rate is 1.7 per cent.

The two COVID-19 fatalities recorded on Tuesday are from Imphal West and Bishnupur. Both the deceased had co-morbidities and were not vaccinated, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

As per the release, Imphal West and Imphal East continued to report the highest number of new COVID-19 cases with 12 and 10 cases respectively and two cases were reported from Kakching.

The state also recorded 17 new recoveries, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 1,23,147. The recovery rate is 98.14 per cent. Manipur now has 344 COVID-19 active cases, as per the release.

Meanwhile, a total of 621 D-type oxygen cylinders and 127 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours.

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 22,21,184 (first dose: 12,97,996 second dose: 9,23,188). The cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state with first dose is 65.94 per cent and for second dose is 46.90 per cent, it mentioned.
