COVID-19 claims 19 more lives in Meghalaya

Meghalaya also recorded 569 new COVID-19 positive cases in a span of 24 hours, pushing the state's COVID-19 caseload to 23,332.

Nineteen more persons succumbed to COVID-19 related complications in Meghalaya on Sunday, taking the death toll to 320, official sources said.

Of these, 16 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district, while West Khasi Hills district, West Garo Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district reported one death each, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

Meghalaya also recorded 569 new COVID-19 positive cases in a span of 24 hours, pushing the state's COVID-19 caseload to 23,332. With these new positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 4,534.

The new positive cases included 274 from East Khasi Hills, 43 from West Jaintia Hills, 34 from West Garo Hills, 33 from West Khasi Hills, 31 from South West Garo Hills, 19 from East Jaintia Hills, eight South Garo Hills, seven from South West Khasi Hills and three East Garo Hills, Dr War said.

Dr War also informed that of 354 more patients, including 213 from East Khasi Hills, 55 from Ri Bhoi, 26 from West Garo Hills, 21 from West Khasi Hills, 16 from East Jaintia Hills, nine from West Jaintia Hills, six from South Garo Hills, four each from East Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, have recovered from the viral infection. The cumulative number of  COVID-19 recovered cases in the state reached 18,478. 

With 2,497 active Covid-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, which includes the state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 651 cases. There are 399 cases in West Garo Hills, 298 in West Jaintia Hills, 187 in South West Garo Hills, 176 in East Jaintia Hills, 153 in West Khasi Hills, 66 in South Garo Hills, 43 in North Garo Hills, 41 in East Garo Hills and 23 in South West Khasi Hills.

Meanwhile, as many as 5,08,574 persons who have undergone COVID-19 test in the state as on date, of which 4,85,242 people tested negative for the virus even as 864 persons are in institutional quarantine and 3,670 under home quarantine.

There are 1,18,278 entrants from outside the state.

A total of 28,072 healthcare workers have received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,412 have received the second dose, while 73,937 frontline workers have been vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine and 26,412 got the second dose as of Sunday.

Moreover, 2,24,316 persons from among the general public have been vaccinated with the first dose and 28,223 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
