Assam records two more COVID-19 deaths; total toll rises to 24

Assam on Thursday reported two more COVID-19 related deaths, taking the state's total toll to 24, official sources said.

The two patients succumbed to their critical infections on Thursday morning at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on Twitter.

The deceased have been identified as Prosnna Kumar Haloi (70) of Beltola, Guwahati and Ramsingh Hanse (56) of Karbianglong. They were admitted at the Covid ICU in GMCH, the health minister said, adding both were on invasive ventilation.

"Very sad to inform that 2 more #COVID19 + patients Sri Prosnna Kumar Haloi (70) of Beltola, Guwahati and Sri Ramsingh Hanse (56) of Karbianglong admitted in GMCH Covid ICU succumbed to their critical infections this morning. Both were on invasive ventilation. My condolences," Sarma tweeted.

On Wednesday, Assam registered six COVID-19 related deaths, while 696 new COVID-19 postive cases were reported, taking the state's total tally to 14,032.

Of the total confirmed cases in Assam, 5,281 cases are active while 8,726 patients have recovered from the infection, according to the update by the state health minister.
