After more than two months of reporting its first COVID-19 case, Mizoram has reported 12 cases of the disease on Tuesday taking the tally to 13.
According to Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthangliana, one male and 11 females were tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. They are returnees of Kolkata and Delhi who arrived in Mizoram recently in batches.
It can be mentioned that the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Mizoram on March 24.

Meanwhile, the State Health minister appealed to people not to get panic but to follow the guidelines on COVID-19 strictly.
Mizoram is testing samples for COVID-19 at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Aizawl.
According to the health minister, all the 12 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic.
It can be mentioned here that Mizoram is situated in a vulnerable location when it comes to the exposure aspect to the outsiders at the state shares inter-state boundaries with Assam, Manipur and Tripura and also a 722 km unfenced international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Since this has been the situation, the Mizoram police has been taking up immense measures to protect state borders and maintain law and order in the state.
More than 2,500 policemen are maintaining round-the-clock vigil to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. The reports added that 15 senior officers are tasked with contact tracing and a total of 1,776 policemen have been deployed in at least 182 duty posts across the state exclusively for law and order.
The Mizoram government has been taking up stringent measures in towns and other areas as a way of further enhancing the ongoing fight against the spread of COVID-19. As such, anyone violating the lockdown prohibitory order in Mizoram is given “exemplary punishment”.
