Beneficiaries of Meta Finance on Sunday protested in front of the building at Thoubal Athokpam, Thoubal where the office of Meta Finance was set up, against the alleged closing of the microfinance office without completing their payment.
In the protest, one Sangeeta Sagolsem said that Meta Finance is a microfinance office with registration number 226/M/SR of 1960 which had set up its office opposite to Thoubal DC office five years ago.
She accused the microfinance of collecting huge sums of money from the beneficiaries through various fraudulent schemes, including Rs 5 lakh Lucky Draw cum Tender Marup, Rs 2 lakh Lucky Draw cum Tender Marup and Fixed Deposit.
“Then the office had remained closed from June onwards. In a meeting with the beneficiaries held in August, the founders agreed to open the office from August 22 onwards but the office still remained closed,” she added.
One Sapam Johnbenson from Khongman Bashikhong Bazaar Meira Club was the managing director of the microfinance office, Laishram Manichandra Singh from Wangjing Awang Leikai Heirok Gate was the secretary and Yendrembam Premjit Singh from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai was its treasurer, she said.
She continued that the beneficiaries had repeatedly demonstrated sit-in protests and submitted memorandums and ultimatums to the managing director demanding him to open the office, cautioning extreme measures if the demand is ignored. She also appealed to the authorities concerned, the relevant clubs, and organisations to take necessary action.
