Zomi beginners’ book released

The Zomi Beginners Book was written in Zomi Script or Zolai which is based on the script invented by (L) Paucinhau in the first decade of 20th century.

The 10th Zomi Language and Literature Society (ZOLLS) anniversary 2021-22 commemoration cum release of the Zomi Beginners Book was held at the Dorcas Hall Auditorium, New Lamka on Saturday.

It was attended as chief guest by the MLA of Churachandpur assembly constituency LM Khaute while founding president of Gilead Evangelical Theological Seminary, Bengaluru Dr Pumzathang Tombing attended as guests of honour and as chief host by chairman of Zomi Council John K Ngaihte.

The occasion witnessed the commemoration of ZOLLS's 10 years of existence while the Zomi Student beginners’ book was released by the guest of honour.  The book was written in Zomi Script or Zolai which is based on the script invented by (L) Paucinhau in the first decade of 20th century.

The script has been included and identified as a script by superintendent of government printing in 1931 in the census of India by JJ Bennison, apart from others in the pre-independent periods.

On the occasion, the chief guest said that he was happy to be a part of the august gathering of the people who love language and literature from the Zomis.

He said it is highly important to have a distinctive identity for any community or tribe and the zomis are blessed through the Zomi script.

The chief host said the efforts of the ZOLLS team led by its chairman Luaichinthang and secretary S Dalsianpau was laudable.
