In an effort to revive the Tangkhul literature and to remind all that their stories are best told through oral narratives, the Tangkhul Naga Society, Delhi is set to organise Tangkhul Literature Festival 2022 in Ukhrul Headquarters on December 13-14.
Addressing the press at 25 Degree North Restaurant at Viewland, Ukhrul on Saturday, Dr AC Kharingpam, TNSD president and convenor of the organising committee, said that the Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) will organise the festival in collaboration with North East Foundation for Education and Culture (NEFEC) and Association of Recognised Schools Ukhrul District (ARSUD).
Dr Kharingpam, accompanied by organising committee members Yarmi Kashung, president, ARSUD, and Tamyo, general secretary, NEFEC, asserted that one’s rights are best articulated when one employs one’s own language to speak for us. He made a clarion call to all to come forward in rebuilding the community's literature.
The festival will have two parallel sessions consisting of a children section, seminar and panel discussion and talk session.
The first session aims to imbibe and imbue children of all ages with the rich literary heritage of the community, while the second session is intended to create a platform of academic discussion, literary discourses and creative environment, he added.
Seminar I will be on "Conceptualising Literature: Aspects and Issues, while seminar II will be deliberated on Devotional Songs and Literature."
As a part of the school children session, storytelling, poetry reading, story-writing, folk song, singing (solo), debate and painting competitions will be organised. Children session will be held at UBC, Ukhrul old building.
Panel discussion and talk session will be held at the conference hall, Zimik plaza, Viewland, Ukhrul. Interaction with prose and poetry writing will also be a part of the festival.
A special talk with Paul Kasar, Rev Kasomwoshi, C Chiphang and Rev Jonah M Solo will also be held.
Ram Muivah, MLA, 44-Ukhrul AC will grace the inaugural programme as chief guest, while professor Darlando T Khathing, former vice chancellor, Central University, Jharkhand will be the keynote speaker.
