MLA of Langthabal assembly constituency Karam Shyam on Sunday stated that Manipur’s economic stand will slip even further if people continue to spend time and money on meaningless pursuits.
He was speaking at the release function of ‘Nungshibi Myanmar’ and ‘Nungshibi Japan’ by Saratchand Thiyam at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
The MLA emphasised the need to conduct discourse and steer away youths from such degradable behaviours. “Time and money are both precious assets and we should teach youths how to manage them,” he added.
He stated that the genre of travelogues in literature have the ability to instill new ideals and principles among the youths. However, the changing face of technology has swayed youths away from book pages and onto mobile screens, he added.
“Even politicians are becoming dependent on social media; in some ways, it has become closely linked to the maintenance of people’s image. Therefore, we should always try to utilize it properly,” he said.
Karam Shyam maintained that Saratchand Thiyam’s travelogue, ‘Nungshibi Greece’ was a monumental work which informed the Manipuri people about the Greek civilisation. It is one of the best travelogues written in Manipuri literature, he added.
