A book, ‘Churachandpur da Khundariba Meiteishing’, written by Kamal Toijamba was released on Sunday at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.
Manipur Sahitya Parishad president Longjam Joychandra; Sahitya Akademi awardee Yumlembam Ibomcha; assistant professor of Manipur University of Culture, Makhonmani Mongshaba, among other prominent literary figures of the state, attended the release function.
Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, Longjam Joychandra stated that the assertion of a collective identity cannot be founded on a whimsical ideology.
“Collective identity is not constructed with bricks and cement, but rather on a voluntary willingness to go beyond oneself for the greater good,” he said.
As such, he exhorted all citizens of Manipur to exert individual effort in strengthening the collective identity of Manipur and not succumb to vested ideologies.
He stated that Kamal Toijamba’s book would aid in creating a conducive atmosphere for people to unite and added that the book provides vital insights into the origin and evolution of the Meitei settlement in Churachandpur.
“The book will be helpful to the people of all generations as it dives into the inception of Meitei settlement in Churachandpur and provides information on how it had evolved over the years,” he said.
