Imphal Book Fair 2023 opened at the Tiddim Ground in Imphal West on Sunday with various acitvities including meet with theatre personalities and authors, and quiz and painting contests.
The fair, organised by the State Central Library, Imphal, aims to encourage the habit of reading books and create awareness on the importance of books, on Sunday launched a 10-day
During the 10-day long 29th edition of the fair, all books will be available at a 15 per cent discount, the organiser said.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Arts and Culture commissioner M Joy stressed the need to maintain a good library in every school and educational institutes, saying books play a significant role in grooming the younger generation.
Stating that a person will be a good contributor to the society only when he or she is used to reading books which is considered a pool of knowledge, he said it is believed that such a fair will be a great initiative to awaken the public on the importance of reading books.
The commissioner also suggested opening a library by local club as a recreation or resource centre for the locals, especially youths to enable them in becoming a responsible citizen.
A souvenir of the book fair was also released during the inaugural function which was also attended by director of Arts and Culture L Kishworjit and Manipur Library Association president K Chaoba among others.
