A new production of ‘Waree Leeba’ organised by Academy for Cultural Resources and Training (ACRT), Nepra Company Makha leikai, Thoubal district, Manipur has been showcased at the rehearsal hall of ACRT on Sunday.
The story ‘Bhim na Durbasha Seva Touba’, a chapter from the epic Mahabharata, was narrated by Palungbam Ranibala Devi. As a part of the event Maibam Shama Devi sang Khongjom Parva''.
Social worker Yumam Bashan Meitei, ACRT vice president Khangembam Shamugou Singh and National Awardee Laimujam Pratap Singh attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving his keynote address, Sagolshem Singajit Singh briefed about the age-old tradition of Waree Leeba (story telling) in Manipuri society.
He also expressed worries on the present day style of Waree leeba which showed lack of discipline. He hoped that the new production of Waree Leeba will promote the rich aged old waree leeba tradition in its purest form. Several cultural activists attended the event.
