The Multi Folk Dance Festival 2022 with the objective of spreading awareness on folk dances of the diverse communities in Manipur began in Imphal East on Sunday.
Various folk dances were performed at the opening ceremony of the third edition of the festival being held at the SAC Community Hall. It is being organised by the Loijingloya Leimarol Yaiphakol (LOLY) under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture
Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day festival, LOLY advisor BC Tekcham pointed out that the performance of folk dances by those who are professionals in various festivals for entertainment purposes is different from the ones performed by the professionals and students in terms of the steps and movement.
Tekcham also said that despite the widespread pollution in the state and other unhealthy lifestyles which the state is witnessing today, most of the folk dancers stay fit and healthy due to regular practice.
Besides showcasing various folk dances, paper presentations on ‘Manipuri Folk Dance and Music’ were given by MU Dance and Music assistant professor L Subadra and assistant professor of Manipur University of Culture Manju Elangbam on the first day of the festival.
It was attended by pradhan of Top Dusara GP M Surbala as chief guest; secretary of Social Athletic Club K Dhamen as president, and president of Apunba Nupi Lup, Top Mayai Leikai Ch Jamini and president of Village Level Federation, Top Mayai Leikai Y Indubala as guests of honour.
