A three-day Thang-ta and Manipuri Folk Dance Festival, 2022 at Keirao Bitra Khunou in Imphal East concluded on Saturday with the presentation of various cultural performances.
The festival was organised by the Performing Organisation of Arts and Culture (POAC), Manipur as observance of its 21st foundation day.
Delivering the keynote address, the ‘luchingpurel’ of POAC Louriyam ongbi Thaba pointed out that Manipur is a land of performing artistes and has a variety of such arts forms.
She said that all the indigenous performing art forms have their own particular value, discipline and are closely related to the society. But unfortunately in this contemporary situation, so many changes have come up due to the influence of globalisation, she added.
She mentioned that the new generation could not look towards the traditional value and system and also highly neglected the traditional art performances. She added that is why the moral and spiritual values are declining among the youths today.
Thaba said the festival was organised with the motive to enhance the moral values of this new generation and encourage studying the indigenous performing arts.
The closing ceremony was attended by chairman of Ranginiketan Ajit Das as chief guest; president of Cultural Workers and Artists Forum Bhudha Chingtham as guest of honour while it was presided by director of Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang Ta Cultural Association K Sanathoiba.
