Farmers of Kakching Khunou Umathel, Kakching district on Wednesday raised concern that the crops will not yield an abundant harvest for the year owing to shortage of urea fertilisers, and appealed to the authorities concerned to provide the required fertilisers.

A farmer of Umathel Mahou Loukol in Sugnu assembly constituency Mayanglambam Ibechoubi said that the farmers had been facing shortage of urea since the recent years.

She recalled that the Sugnu MLA had distributed urea fertilisers only once earlier the year.  Although ‘token cards’ for distribution of fertilisers were handed out to the farmers, the authorities concerned are yet to distribute the required urea, she added.

She also mentioned the importance of the paddy crops for the livelihoods of the farmers. She further appealed to the authorities concerned to provide the fertilisers within the following weeks, and added that the fertilisers will be of no use later.
