Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club on Saturday, K Tomba said that the right canal, which was constructed for the irrigation facility from Thoubal Dam, is not functioning due to negligence of engineers. The 8-km-long canal should supply water to 400 acres of paddy fields and to Sanapat, Huikap, Ngariyan, Angtha, Uchon, Tomba said. But it has not functioned for the last 30 years, he added.

Stating that farmers are suffering due to lack of irrigation water, he urged the state government to take action about the non-functional canal.

Stating that spring water from the hill was abundant in the paddy fields before the construction of the canal, he said there is no use of the canal if it does not function, even if it was constructed for the needs of the farmers.
