Farmers’ Woes: Manipur Human Rights Commission takes up suo-motu case

The MHRC has taken up the suo-motu case in connection with news reports published on Monday in the local dailies

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Monday took up a suo-motu case in connection with the reported plight of farmers in the state.

The MHRC has directed commissioner (Agriculture) and director of Agriculture, government of Manipur to submit a report by August 19 for further proceedings.

The MHRC has taken up the suo-motu case in connection with news reports published on Monday in the local dailies under the headline ‘IPSA urges state government to look into the plight of farmers’ and ‘Haar pidabagi chara henbagi khongjang makha chatthari’.

It is learnt that the deputy secretary of MHRC has issued a complaint by submitting the news report before the MHRC, stating that if the report is true than it is a serious violation of blue rights (socio-economic rights) guaranteed by article 21 read with article (19) (1) (g) and 300A read with part-IV (directives principle of state policy) constitution of India.

The MHRC has taken up the suo-motu case under section 12 of protection of human rights act, 1993 in the interest and for protection of socio-economic rights of the farmers community of Manipur.
