The state-level Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Saturday announced that it has resumed the processing of RT-PCR tests.
The Biosafety Cabinet at RIMS VRDL is now functional after servicing and repairing, and a new Biosafety Cabinet has been installed additionally as well, the VRDL RIMS stated in a release signed by principal investigator professor Kh Sulochana Devi.
“As we are dealing with a very contagious virus, it is of utmost importance for our VRDL staff to work under Biosafety Cabinets while handling and processing all the samples. We would like to state that our VRDL team has been working relentlessly with no Sundays or holidays since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, assisting the state in containment of the deadly virus,” VRDL RIMS stated. Till now, VRDL has done 1, 17, 955 RT-PCR tests, it added.

“As we resume our work again from Saturday, we would like to appreciate the engineers who came from Guwahati in such difficult times by taking the risk of servicing and repairing the Biosafety Cabinet. We would also like to thank everyone involved for bearing with us during the brief disruption of testing activity at VRDL, RIMS,” the VRDL RIMS added.
