The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) on Wednesday announced that a poster/slogan campaign expressing resentment against the "present dispensation" will be launched in the state in conformity with the prescribed COVID-19 SOPs. The apex tribal student body is not happy with the Manipur government for failing to materialise the April 7, 2021 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regard to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections.
"To ensure the continuity in the functioning of grass root level democratic institutions in the hill districts of Manipur, an agreement for issuance of notification for general elections to the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) on or before May 5, 2021 was inked between the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) and the Government of Manipur on April 7, 2021. However, to the great dismay of the people, the government failed to honour the hard earned agreement," the tribal student body said in a press statement.
ATSUM stated that it "seriously noted this treacherous act" of the state government and strongly condemned the "ploy" of the state government to "deliberately" breach the inked MoU for electoral gains or self centred political mileage at the expense of the hill people.
ATSUM further stated that it deeply regretted that such a "breach of trust" committed by the "responsible" government will be irreparable. "Therefore, ATSUM is constrained to announce that a poster/slogan campaign expressing resentment against the present dispensation will be launched in the state in conformity with the prescribed COVID-19 SOPs," it added.
