Amid the surging COVID-19 cases in Manipur, two individuals were on Tuesday fined in Tamenglong district headquarters for concealing their COVID-19 positive status.
A total of five individuals boarded the Imphal-Tamenglong passenger bus on Tuesday. Of them, two persons tested positive for COVID-19. The two had reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 at Mao Gate. However, they entered the district by hiding their COVID-19 test reports, district magistrate of Tamenglong Armstrong Pame said.
The two persons have intentionally hidden their COVID-19 status and hence as per the Manipur Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulation, 2020 Chapter 3-(i) a penalty of Rs1,000 each has been imposed upon the two persons, he added.
Pame directed them to submit the amount at SP, Tamenglong, SDM/SDO office, Tamenglong or at DM office, Tamenglong. The penalty may be submitted on their behalf by their family members, failing to do so, the two individuals shall further be prosecuted under relevant sections of the IPC, he warned.
The district magistrate also said that no passenger vehicles or any private vehicle will be allowed after 6 pm to enter the headquarters as testing facilities would no longer be available. However, in case any private vehicle desires to enter the town area from outside the district, a negative test result should be provided for all the passengers, he added.
He further informed that on being tested positive, he or she may either go for home isolation or stay at the COVID Care Centre at Tamenglong Higher Secondary School.
On Monday, the District Task Force, in its meeting chaired by Forest and Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai at the conference hall of DC, Tamenglong, resolved to conduct mandatory COVID-19 testing for all the incoming passengers in the district in view of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 positive cases detected from the persons entering the district.
Following the resolution, the district administration has set up two COVID-19 testing camps for all the persons entering the district via Khongshang Road or via short cut at the checking points at 5th MR Gate and another at the Bhalok-Junction.
