Barely four days ahead of Christmas, a bike accident along National Highway-2 claimed the lives of three youths from Kangpokpi district, police said.
The deceased youths have been identified as Paojangam Kipgen, 19, son of (L) Seikhomang Kipgen of Jangmol village, Laljemthang Kipgen,18, son of Lunkhohao Kipgen of Laloi village and Satkhohao Haokip,19, son of Letmang Haokip of Laloi village all under Kangpokpi police station.
According to police sources, the three youths who were riding in a bike bearing Regd. No. MN02-A 0811 and heading towards Kangpokpi met with the fatal incident when they collided with a DI Tata pickup truck bearing Regd.No NL0A 8149 in between Koubru Laikha and Leikop along the NH-2. The pickup truck carrying apples was heading towards Imphal when the mishap occurred.
Kangpokpi police recovered the dead bodies and later sent them for post mortem after completing necessary formalities at Kangpokpi police station.
The driver of DI Tata was detained at Kangpokpi police station. Meanwhile, Kangpokpi Town Committee on learning the unfortunate incident rushed to Kangpokpi police station to express condolence and solidarity to the bereaved families by covering each of the deceased youths with traditional shawls.
