Gurumayum Birachandra Sharma alias Molecule, who was arrested for the killing of G Surajkumar Sharma, has been sent to seven-day police custody till November 30 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West.
Police arrested 72-year-old Molecule of Chingamathak Ngakraba Leirak at Singjamei, Imphal West, on November 24, for shooting his nephew, Gurumayum Surajkumar Sharma, son of G Gope Sharma, near a temple located at the courtyard of his residence, around 9.30 am on November 21.
Injured Surajkumar was rushed to a hospital for treatment, where he was declared dead, the police said in a statement.
Locals had said that Surajkumar was rushed to Raj Medicity hospital, North AOC but he succumbed to his injuries at about 11 am at the hospital. Hospital authority said the bullet hit him on the right arm and right chest.
Following the incident, Singjamei police lodged an FIR against Molecule on November 21, but he went missing. An eyewitness had said that “Molecule fled from the spot after he shot Suraj with his licensed gun and escaped in his Maruti van ambulance (white in colour) bearing registration number MN05 A6135.”
However, the police investigation team found him and arrested him on November 24, along with the gun he used in committing the crime, the police said in a statement, adding that on preliminary investigation Molecule admitted to having committed the crime with intention, preparation and commission.
It may be mentioned that police had arrested Molecule’s daughter, G Gita Paras on the evening of November 21, the day Surajkumar was killed. According to the police statement, during the investigation, she admitted the charges levelled against her in conspiring the crime. Following it, the court had sent her to three-day police custody till November 24, the police said.
The police, after arresting Molecule, produced the two accused before the court with a prayer for seven-day police custody. After the hearing, the court sent the two to seven-day police custody till November 30.
