In a bid to ease travel within Assam and between Northeastern states, the Assam government on Wednesday relaxed the COVID-19 tests norms, lifting mandatory testing beginning next week.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the development and said that air passengers travelling within Assam and those travelling between Northeast states will no longer require mandatory COVID-19 testing.
The health minister further said that COVID-19 test for incoming flight passengers from other states will be done in Guwahati Airport itself instead of Xarusajai.
"From next week- 1. #COVID19 test for incoming flight passengers will be done in Guwahati Airport itself instead of Xarusajai. 2. Air passengers travelling within Assam and those travelling between North East States will no longer require mandatory #COVID19 testing," Sarma tweeted.
Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Assam reached 2,10,696, including 2,06,398 recoveries and 966 deaths. On Tuesday, the state recorded 242 new COVID-19 positive cases. With the detection of the new cases, the number of active cases stood at 3,329 while three patients have migrated from the state.
