Tengnoupal Battalion of HQ Pallel sector under the aegis of IGAR (S) seized 66 packets (767 gms) of suspected narcotic items worth crores of rupees as per International market smuggled from Myanmar on Friday, said a release issued by IGAR (South).
During the regular check at Mobile vehicle check post Tengnoupal, the team stopped an Alto car bearing registration no WB 02 T 7584 (Black) travelling from Moreh to Imphal. On checking the vehicle 66 packets of suspected narcotic items were found under the bonnet of the car, it said.
On further enquiry, the Narcotic item was being transported from Moreh to Imphal. The car was driven by an individual named Md Anish Khan, 26, son of Md Abdul Rashid from Thoubal and the passenger in the vehicle was identified as Md Tomba, 27, son of Kayamudin and Azizoor, son of Rahmad both from Thoubal. The vehicle had valid essential vehicle pass, it stated.

The recovered narcotic items were handed over to representatives from Police station of Tengnoupal. Assam Rifles will continue to check such nefarious activities of illicit drug smuggling in Manipur to protect the youth from the menace of drug addiction, it added.
On the other hand, Aina Battalion of Churachandpur Sector under the aegis of IGAR South helped the victims of a road accident in the remote area of Pherzawl district on Friday.
An accident took place between an oil tanker of NHIDCL and a car near village on Thursday. The region has been facing incessant rains since past two days and the dense cloud cover have made the journey from Churachandpur to Pherzawl a treacherous affair, it stated.
The release stated that the medical response team of the Aina Battalion of Assam Rifles, on being informed, rushed to the accident site. They provided first aid to the victims travelling in the ill-fated car. The six passengers of the car including four children sustained minor injuries. The injured locals have been evacuated to District hospital Churachandpur for advanced medical care, it said.
