Imphal East DC urges youths to take election seriously

District commissioner, Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana on Saturday urged the youths to take election seriously while stressing that the future of society depends on them.

She was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘youth meet’ organised by youths from Singjamei assembly constituency under the theme ‘Youth discussion for future development’ at Singjamei Chingamathak Hao Ground on Saturday in connection with the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Election.

Speaking about the role of youths in electoral politics, Diana appealed to each and every youth to exercise their voting rights wisely without getting influenced by anybody.

Joint chief electoral officer, Nongmeikapam Ramananda who had attended the function as guest of honour briefly explained about essence of enrolling in voters list and holding of voter cards in order to exercise voting rights as a citizen of state.

He said that in order to scale up more number of voters in the state, enrollment process and issuance of voter cards has been simplified. Anyone can apply for enrollment of voter list and voter cards online.

Concerning the role of youth in politics, he appreciated the youth of Singjamei assembly constituency for conducting such a meaningful discussion. Participation of youths who are matured enough to choose a right candidate is highly essential in developing a corruption free society.

Associate professor of Manipur University, Chinglen Meisnam said that the future of a state largely depends on the elected representative.  Therefore, the youths should actively get involved in choosing a right candidate for the better future.

For this, the first and foremost thing to do is to enroll them in voters list without fail, he said. The youths should also actively get involved in conducting election in a free and fair manner.
