A ‘Meet with the Club Members’ programme was initiated on Sunday with the aim of spreading awareness on saving the migratory birds at the main wetlands of Kakching district.
The clubs functioning near the wetlands were selected in the programme which was a part of the continuous drive led by assistant conservator of forest Naorem Munal Meitei along with forest beat officials under Kakching Range.

Speaking on the occasion, N Munal said after thorough checking at Kharungpat and Ngakhapat wetlands, the forest officials had conducted search operations at the western side of Khoidumpat wetland where the migration of the birds is the most dense.
He continued that the forest officials met with former pradhan Premkumar, member E Memma and members of the clubs including Sengmaijing Maning Leikai Naharol Club, Naharol Development Club and others, to discuss the role of Forest department and the club members to aid the migratory birds.

In the drive, bird traps were seized from Konuma and Langmeidong, and one Chestnut Bittern (Hongai) which was handed over by Sagolsem Rema Leima from Sugunu Wapokpi, was released in its natural habitat, Munal added.
