Range forest officer urged to prohibit excavation, transportation of earth

About 15-20 truckloads of earth have been transported so far from Kakching Garden, Uyok Ching, Kakching district, and is still continuing, sources said.

Range forest officer Kakching has been told to take up necessary steps to immediately stop the alleged activities of illegal excavation and transportation of earth at Kakching Garden, Uyok Ching, Kakching district and take appropriate legal action against the perpetrators.

On finding the said illegal activities being carried out, a report was submitted by one Shougaijam Ronan, a resident of Kakching Wairi, Kamala Pareng Khallakpam leikai to range forest officer Kakching.

The report alleged that some miscreants have been illegally carrying out excavation on the foothills of Kakching Garden, Uyok Ching and the excavated earth were being transported to some other places.

The illegal activity started since Wednesday and about 15-20 truckloads of earth have been transported so far from there and is still continuing, the report mentioned.

“Indiscriminate digging or removal of earth can deliver a huge impact to the ecosystem and our environment. Thus, there is a need to check on such illegal activities in order to protect and preserve our environment,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, range forest officer Kakching Naorem Munal Meitei told the Imphal Free Press over the phone that the area is under the jurisdiction of division forest officer Chandel. He has forwarded the report to the officials concerned on Thursday itself, Munal added.
