Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday resigned as from his post, a year ahead of the the state assembly elections. Tripura state BJP president Manik Saha has been elected as the legislature party leader hours after, Biplab Kumar Deb - the first BJP chief minister in Tripura - tendered his resignation. Saha is set to be the new chief minister to replace Biplab Kumar Deb.
Manik Saha, who is currently a Rajya Sabha MP, will take oath as the new CM of Tripura on Sunday.
"Congratulations and best wishes to @DrManikSaha2 ji on being elected as the legislature party leader. I believe under PM Shri @narendramodi Ji's vision and leadership Tripura will prosper," Biplab Kumar tweeted.
Deb, who tendered his resignation to governor Satyadeo Narain Arya, tweeted "I thank Central leadership & people of Tripura for giving me the responsibility to serve Tripura as a Chief Minister. I have wholeheartedly served my State & will always work for the betterment of my State. Tripura shall definitely march ahead in the path of devt. Jai Hind."
Tripura will go to polls in March 2023.
