The ‘ghost contractor’, GG Rongmei was sent to jail on expiry of the four-day remand period in the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) work sanction case.
Contractor GG Rongmei was arrested based on an FIR registered by City police station regarding procurement of work order using fake documents and remanded him to six-day police custody after being produced in a court on June 9.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West remanded GG Rongmei in six-day police custody till June 14 for further investigation.
Manipur MLA Joykisan, visiting the workplace sites that had been sanctioned to GG Rongmei for construction of retaining wall of pond and drains, said that one contractor that could not be identified by IMC engineer had taken out funds without working.
IMC’s engineers and others who are responsible for sanctioning funds have no knowledge about GG Rongmei and are unable to identify the said person, said Joykisan.
