Manipur girls posted a 7-wicket opening win over Meghalaya in the Women's U-19 One Day Trophy 2023-24 played at CK Pithawala Ground, Bhimpore in Surat.
Sent in to bat first, Meghalaya lost both the openers cheaply for 12 runs but Janika provided some relief hitting 46 runs from 75 balls to rotate the strike. As wickets tumbled, tailender batswoman Cheanchi tried her best, making 21 runs but could not last long as they were all out for 97 runs in 36.4 overs.
Manipur bowler Niruta Thoudam claimed 3 wickets for 26 runs from 9.4 overs, L. Linthoi took 2 wickets while Khadija and Barkatun fetched 1 wicket each.
In reply, Manipur did not fare well as they lost three wickets for 25 runs but skipper Nirutha Thoudam stood her ground with an unbeaten 13 runs and L. Linthoi also remained not out with 37 runs to reach the target in 27.2 overs for the victory.
Meghalaya bowler Natasha claimed 1 wicket while two of Manipur batsmen were run outs.
